It is the NHTPL Team's mission to maintain the accessibility of poetry for all NH teens, and to spread the power of writing.  

Meet the Team

This year the NH Teen Poet Laureate Team consists of six poets. Get to know them:

Senior

Sophie Yu

Poet Laureate

Sophie Yu (she/her) is a senior at Phillips Exeter Academy and a member of the NH Teen Poet Laureate Team. She is a published author of two poetry collections, as well as the co-founder of Nova Literary Magazine. She is also an alumna of the Sewanee Young Writers Conference and the Juniper Institute for Young Writers Program. Her work has been featured in various publications and recognized by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, both regionally and nationally. If you can’t find her in a warmly-lit cafe, she is most likely scrapbooking in her room with jazz blasting and a hot cup of jasmine tea brewing on her nightstand.

Junior

Chloé Lind

Team Member 

Chloé Lind is a junior at Phillips Exeter Academy from Charleston, South Carolina. Her poetry has been recognized by the Poetic Power organization as well as being published in their anthology. She received first prize in the John Estey Student Writing Competition hosted by the American Writers Museum of Chicago, as well as the Lamont Younger Poets Prize in 2024. Her work has been recognized by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers in the Scholastic Writing Competition and has been published in several local and school anthologies and magazines. She is also an alumna of the Smith Creative Writing Workshop. When not writing, Chloé enjoys playing squash on her school’s team, refining her photography skills and walking her black Labrador, Gatsby (literary reference).

Junior

Catherine Manley 

Team Member

Catherine Manley is a junior at Phillips Exeter Academy. Her writing has been recognized by various contests and anthologies around the world. These include the Dreams Come True International Writing Competition where she published two poems, the Lamont Poetry 2024 Chapbook, as well as local zines and magazines. Additionally, she is a recipient of the 2024 Lamont Younger Poets Prize and works with multiple poetry clubs on campus. When not writing, Catherine enjoys volunteering with various organizations, playing in orchestras and bands, and studying foreign languages.

Jimmy Pappas

Team Advisor 

Jimmy Pappas received an MA in English literature from Rivier University. Published in over 100 journals, he moderates weekly Zoom events called A Conversation with Jimmy and Friends. His poem "Bobby's Story" was one of ten finalists in the 2017 Rattle Poetry Contest and won the 2018 Readers Choice Award. It is included in his first book Scream Wounds, a collection of poems based on veterans' stories. He was the winner of the 2019 Rattle chapbook contest for Falling off the Empire State Building. Senior​

Elizabeth Chung

Poet Laureate

Elizabeth Chung is a senior at Nashua High School South. Her poetry has been recognized regionally and nationally by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Additionally, she received the 2025 NH Teen Poetry Prize. Outside of writing, Elizabeth loves art, particularly portraiture. She also enjoys volunteering, thrifting, and exploring new restaurants and cafes.

Senior

Erin Han

Poet Laureate

Erin Han (she/her) is a senior at Phillips Exeter Academy. Her poetry and prose have been recognized and published by various circles, including the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. She is also the co-founder of Nova Literary Magazine. In her free time, she enjoys reading with a London Fog in hand, versing herself in the latest Korean slang, and crafting copious playlists on Spotify.

Junior

Chloe Zhang

Team Member

Chloe Zhang is a high school junior from Nashua High School South. Her work has been
recognized both regionally and nationally by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, as well as published in the Blue Marble Review. Additionally, she is an alumni of the Juniper Institute for Young Writers. Outside of writing, Chloe enjoys dancing (ballet and lyrical especially), baking, and listening to music.

Sophomore

Serena Yue

Team Member

Serena Yue is a sophomore from Phillips Exeter Academy, and has spent most of her life in Florida and Shenzhen, China. She writes for her school newspaper, the Exonian, and her work is forthcoming in Eunoia Review. Her writing has been recognized by the Lamont Younger Poets and the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, among others. Serena loves playing the guzheng, horses, and Greek mythology.
